Chloë Grace Moretz Calls Her 'Dreamy' Wedding to Kate Harrison ‘the Most Monumental Moments of Our Life’

Chloë Grace Moretz has learned how to compartmentalize when it comes to her personal and professional life. The 28-year-old actress was busy filming a thriller and preparing for the heavy off-Broadway play Caroline while also tying the knot with her wife, Kate Harrison.

"Between the film I filmed this summer called The Edge of Normal and also then rehearsals on this project, which is also not a lighthearted project, and then going away and having a dreamy wedding, it's such a funny juxtaposition of being an actor," Moretz shared on the Today show on Monday, Sept. 22.

"We're going and playing these dark characters, and then we're going and having the most monumental moments of our life happen," she explained. Moretz added that her "dreamy" wedding day "was a wonderful break and a nice juxtaposition, for sure."

Moretz and Harrison, who had mostly kept their romance private, got married over Labor Day weekend. They said their "I dos" in custom Louis Vuitton looks, including Moretz's sky blue gown. "It just feels like me," Moretz told Vogue. "I never really envisioned a wedding dress in my mind growing up, so when we started talking about what that would look like, I knew I would do something non-traditional, and not wear white, and kind of have it feel different, and I think it really does."

The couple kept their wedding looks private from each other despite going to Paris at the same time for their final fittings. Moretz previously told Vogue that she's most excited about "just being together" when it comes to marriage. "We've been together for almost seven years and making this promise to each other in a new way, and exchanging these vows — I think it's important to just stay every day choosing each other," the Carrie star said.

The couple began dating in 2018 and confirmed their engagement on Instagram on Jan. 1. "The biggest part of our relationship is our friendship, and you really are who you keep around you," Moretz told Vogue. Using their wedding weekend as a way to introduce their guests to the activities that are important to them, the couple incorporated lots of meaningful details. "A big part of the wedding [is about] sharing things that Kate and I love with everyone that's going to be there," Moretz told Vogue. "So there's fishing, horseback riding and poker. Kate made a custom poker mat herself, so we're going to kind of be leaning into it. Our second day is going to be line dancing and everything."

Balancing Dark Roles with Personal Joy

Moretz's career has been marked by a series of intense, often dark roles. From her breakout in Kick-Ass (2010) as the foul-mouthed, lethal Hit-Girl to her chilling performance in Carrie (2013), and more recently in The Peripheral (2022) and The Last Airbender (2010), she has repeatedly proven her versatility. Her upcoming thriller The Edge of Normal continues this trend, placing her in a psychologically demanding story. Simultaneously, she was rehearsing for the off-Broadway play Caroline, a heavy dramatic piece that explores trauma and resilience.

The actress has often spoken about the emotional toll of such roles. In past interviews, she noted that playing dark characters requires meticulous preparation and a strong support system. "I've always been drawn to complex, flawed characters because they feel real to me," she said in a 2020 conversation. "But you have to find ways to leave that on set, otherwise it can consume you." Her relationship with Harrison, a model and businesswoman, has provided a grounding force. The couple first met at a party in Los Angeles in 2016, but didn't start dating until two years later. Friends say they bonded over a shared love of art, travel, and quiet evenings.

A Private Romance Made Public

For years, Moretz and Harrison kept their relationship under the radar. While Moretz occasionally posted about her personal life, she never shared photos of Harrison's face until their engagement. The actress explained that she wanted to protect the relationship from public scrutiny. "We've always been very private because this is ours. It's not for anyone else," she told Vogue. The decision to share their engagement news on New Year's Day 2024 was a deliberate step toward letting fans in, but on their own terms.

The wedding itself was a culmination of that ethos. Held at a private estate in upstate New York, the guest list included close family and a small circle of friends from the entertainment industry. No celebrities were invited, a choice that surprised some given Moretz's wide network. "We wanted it to be intimate, just for us," she said. The custom Louis Vuitton gowns were a highlight: Harrison wore a sharp ivory tuxedo while Moretz opted for a floor-length sky blue gown with delicate embroidery. The color choice was symbolic. "Blue is my favorite color, and it felt like a way to honor my own style rather than follow tradition," she explained.

Career Highlights and Evolution

Chloë Grace Moretz began acting at age seven, appearing in episodes of My Friends Tigger & Pooh and The Cleaner. Her big break came in 2010 with Kick-Ass, where she portrayed Hit-Girl, a role that earned her critical acclaim and a MTV Movie Award. She followed that with Let Me In (2010), a remake of the Swedish vampire film, and Hugo (2011), Martin Scorsese's 3D adventure. Throughout the 2010s, she diversified her portfolio, starring in romantic comedies like The Fault in Our Stars (2014) adjacent If I Stay (2014), and blockbusters such as The 5th Wave (2016) and Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising (2016).

In recent years, Moretz has focused on independent films and television. Her role in the Amazon series The Peripheral (2022) showcased her ability to handle complex sci-fi narratives, while her voice work in Kubo and the Two Strings (2016) demonstrated her range. Off-screen, she has been outspoken about gender equality in Hollywood and LGBTQ+ rights. Her marriage to Harrison is seen as a personal milestone that aligns with her public advocacy.

The Wedding Weekend: A Celebration of Shared Passions

Moretz and Harrison designed their wedding weekend to reflect their personalities. After the ceremony on Saturday, guests enjoyed a evening of line dancing and Southern cuisine. Sunday featured a fishing trip to a nearby lake, followed by horseback riding through the woods. The final day concluded with a poker tournament using custom mats designed by Harrison, who is an avid player. "Kate made a custom poker mat herself, so we're going to kind of be leaning into it," Moretz said.

The couple also incorporated a charitable element, asking guests to donate to organizations supporting LGBTQ+ youth in lieu of traditional gifts. "We have so much, and we wanted to give back in a way that matters to us," Moretz explained. The wedding menu was a collaboration between both families, featuring Southern comfort food from Moretz's Georgia roots and Mediterranean dishes from Harrison's Greek heritage.

Looking Ahead: Marriage and Future Projects

Now that the wedding is behind them, Moretz is eager to return to work with a renewed sense of balance. She is currently in post-production on The Edge of Normal and is attached to several upcoming projects, including a biographical drama about a female astronaut and a thriller set in Iceland. Meanwhile, Harrison continues to run her sustainable fashion label, which has gained a cult following for its minimalist designs.

"We're just taking it one day at a time," Moretz said. "Marriage is a new chapter, but our relationship has always been about supporting each other's dreams. That won't change." The couple plans to split their time between homes in Los Angeles and New York, with occasional trips to Paris, where they enjoy visiting the Louis Vuitton ateliers.

For now, Moretz is soaking in the joy of the past few weeks. "It was the most monumental moment of our life, and I'm grateful we got to share it with the people who matter most," she said. As she prepares for the next phase of her career, one thing is clear: Chloë Grace Moretz has found a way to balance the darkness of her art with the light of her personal life.
